Formula Name Changes
Most people familiar with Dr. Christopher's writings will notice that many of the herbal formulas names have changed over the years. They were first given descriptive names such as lung tonic or intestinal tonic. Then, because of government regulations the word tonic was replaced by the word palliative. Soon laws were passed and the names had to be changed again to non-descriptive aliases such as BF&C or Fen-LB that really didn't let the consumer know what the formulas were used for. The formula labels remained in this encoded and cryptic form for many years. Recently, the rules concerning product names were changed again, this time allowing them to be more descriptive. These new names are easier for the consumer to understand. In this book, the most recent names are listed first and the older names are listed in parentheses. This will help those who have older texts and videos relate to these changes.
Comfrey
Another recent development involves the use of comfrey (Symphytum officinale). Comfrey has a long track record of safe and effective use as a medicine. It has also been used safely as food for both humans and animals. This aside, comfrey has been the subject of recent controversy. One of the constituents of comfrey is a pyrrolizidine alkaloid that, if taken in large amounts, under certain conditions, may cause liver damage. This is a very rare occurrence and need not concern the average comfrey user. People who need to exercise caution with comfrey are those with chronic liver conditions (such as hepatitis, or cirrhosis) and those who are taking liver compromising medications. Due to new government policy, no herbal product containing comfrey may be sold for internal use. Because of this, some herbal recipes have been re-formulated to include other healing herbs to replace comfrey (bulk formulas with comfrey are still available for external use). The author maintains that this wonderful healing herb should be available to all who would like to use it, and looks forward to the day that comfrey will be once again be accessible to everyone. In this index, the formulas are listed both in their original form (with comfrey) and with the recent changes.
Kid-e-line
David Christopher has developed a series of herbal remedies for children called the Kid-e-line. Many of these formulas were modeled after Dr. Christopher's formulas but are prepared with glycerine making them more palatable for children. The names of these formulas are listed along with the names of the formulas they were modeled after.
Dosage
Most Christopher formulas are tonic, which means they may be taken for extended periods of time for chronic problems. The normal tonic dosage is two capsules three times a day or ten to thirty drops of extract three times a day. However, when the need arises this amount may be increased. For example, during an acute infection it may be necessary to take two tablespoons of the Super Garlic Immune Formula every hour even though the normal dose is two tablespoons three times a day. Many inexperienced herb users make the mistake of taking too little of a dose. There are two considerations when using herbs as medicine. First, be familiar with the herbs you are using and second, the dosage (or therapy) should be more aggressive than the disease being treated.
Extended Herbal Cleanse
When we are dealing with long-standing health problems we cannot expect to totally cleanse or cure the body with one or so three-day cleansing routines. Therefore, to rid the body of chronic conditions or to prevent their occurrence, an extended herbal cleanse is an excellent path to follow. This should be used in conjunction with the aforementioned mucusless diet.
Upon arising, we take one or two (more if needed!) of the lower bowel formula. This would then be repeated one hour before lunch, and prior to retiring for the night.
Then, twenty minutes before eating we would take two of the liver-gallbladder formula, which would then be repeated prior to each meal.
Next on the program we would be taking two of the kidney-bladder formula mid-morning and also mid-afternoon. This routine would be followed six days, resting on the seventh. We would resume taking the herbs on the second week, adding two capsules of the blood purifying formula after each meal. We would again do this for six days, resting on the seventh day. This procedure would then continue every week for six weeks, after which we would rest one week. We would repeat these intervals for six months and again resting for one entire month. At the end of this seven month program, we will assess our progress and determine if another seven month program would be beneficial.
The one week delay in adding the blood purifying program is absolutely essential because of the extreme effectiveness of the formula. What we are doing is opening the eliminative channels of the body, allowing a pathway of elimination for the ensuing toxins eliminated by the bloody cleansing formula.

When we state we regularly mixed it in batches of sixty pounds, the student will readily see that we have had at least some experience with it. As a remedy in colds, beginning of fevers, flu, hoarseness, sluggish circulation, colic, cramps, etc., we believe it has done more good than any other single preparation ever known to man. If this compound were kept in every home, and used as the occasion arose, there would be far less sickness. Give it freely in your practice and your patient will bless you. Look over the ingredients and consider how it will clear canker, ease cramps and pains in the stomach and bowels, raise the heat of the body equalizing the circulation, and removing congestions. It is safe. It is effective. We have on numberless occasions given a cup of composition tea every hour, as warm as the patient could drink it, until the patient has perspired freely, and after four or five doses , we have seen our patients in a free perspiration, thereby removing colds and febrile trouble.”

Herbalists who use this formula have found it helpful in cases of tumors, cysts, and lesions in the reproductive organs. The bolus spreads its herbal influence widely from the vagina or bowel through the urinary and genital organs. To make a bolus with this formula, melt coconut butter so that it will mix well with the herb powder. Mix a small quantity of this formula and coconut butter until the consistency of pie dough is achieved. Next, roll this mass with your hands until you have a pencillike bolus approximately the size of the middle finger, cut in inchlong lengths. Harden the bolus in a refrigerator for a few hours. These are to be inserted into the vagina or rectum much the same as a suppository would be. It may be necessary to wear a sanitary napkin so as not to soil clothing when the bolus is melted. Insert upon retiring and leave in all night, six nights a week. The coconut butter melts at body temperature, leaving only the herbs, which are absorbed by the body. On the seventh morning use the Iron Assimilation Formula as a douche to wash out any remaining material.

This is due to the stimulating effect of the cayenne pepper and will do nothing but good for the eyes. Directions: When using the tincture, add two to five drops of the extract in an eyecup of boiled water. Let the solution cool to body temperature and wash the eye by holding the eyecup to the eye and tipping the head backwards. Exercise the eye while doing this as though you were swimming.
